Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will receive the support of voters in Delta State in the next general election, despite Peter Obi winning 2023 presidential election in the state.

Oborevwori made the remarks during an interview from 13:15 on Arise Television on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, when he was asked about the prospects of President Tinubu in Delta State, considering that Peter Obi emerged victorious in the state during the 2023 presidential election.

Responding to the question, the governor attributed the outcome of the previous election to voting patterns among specific groups within the state and expressed confidence that the situation would be different in the future. “First and foremost, the Igbo community in Delta State, that did that in 2023. They never did it during my election. And we are on the same page,” Oborevwori said.

The governor stated that he had encouraged voters to support political parties rather than individual candidates during future elections. “I’ve told them, vote party. This time they will not vote candidates. They will vote party because the love they have for me, I have that confidence they will vote the APC,” he said.

Oborevwori also identified what he described as two major factors that influenced the voting pattern witnessed in the 2023 presidential election.

“There are two factors that happened the other time, the Christian community and the Igbo, the non-Indigenous. But I’ve been able to manage them because the Igbo, the non-Indigenous, we’re working together for the interest of the state. And I also believe that what happened that time will not happen again,” he stated.

The governor further spoke about his engagement with religious leaders before his move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) against what happened in 2023, with Peter Obi winning in his state. “Because also, the religious leaders, before I moved into the APC, we notified them for them to pray for us. So you cannot pray and curse. So they have prayed,” he said.

According to Oborevwori, he intends to maintain communication with religious leaders as future elections approach. “So when the time comes for election, I will still go back to, they said, ah, fathers of faith, when I moved the other time, you prayed for us to succeed. Pray again for us to be victorious. So that’s it,” he stated.

The governor maintained that he does not see the previous voting pattern as a challenge ahead of future elections. “So I don’t think it will be a threat this time. There’s nothing God cannot do,” he said.

Oborevwori added that his responsibility would be to mobilize support for candidates of his party across all levels of the ballot. “My duty is to talk to our people, to deliver a candidate from Mr. President to the last person. So that’s it,” he said…..Read_More…
