Dr. Leelonu Nwibubasa, spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, has said Governor Siminalayi Fubara failed to deliver the liberation residents expected from his administration.
Speaking on the Naija Unfiltered programme, in a video from 01:15:22 posted by Symfoni TV on Monday, October 26, 2026, Nwibubasa was asked to assess Fubara’s performance amid concerns about economic hardship and the pace of governance in the state.
He argued that the governor’s time in office should be assessed in light of the period when he was able to exercise control, alleging that a group of Nyesom Wike’s political allies had taken the government from him.
Explaining why he found it difficult to give Fubara a score, Nwibubasa said, “If I have to score him after the government has been kidnapped from him by a group of Wike’s political bandits, then I will not be nice to him. If a student did not sit for an exam and you are asked to score him, the best thing to say is I did not sit for this exam.
“Governor Siminalayi Fubara did not sit for the exam. And so, it is difficult to give him a score. The greatest thing that Rivers people expected from Sim was liberation. Unfortunately, he failed,” he said.
Despite his criticism, Nwibubasa acknowledged the governor’s early efforts involving civil servants, saying promotion arrears had been paid. He described the move as a reform benefiting Fubara’s own constituency.
When asked whether Fubara had failed to assert himself or had been abandoned by the people, Nwibubasa rejected the suggestion that residents had deserted the governor. He claimed they were prepared to stand by him and argued that a firm rejection of the situation by Fubara would have drawn large crowds into the streets.
Nwibubasa also said the governor rarely speaks publicly, making it difficult to determine where the situation went wrong. He suggested Fubara might eventually explain why he conceded and became quiet, drawing a comparison with former President Goodluck Jonathan, who later discussed his final hours in office.
