Mike Igini, a former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant on election day and monitor proceedings at polling units.

His remarks were featured in a video shared on Monday, October 26, 2026, on the official X handle of Nigerian interviewer Seun Okinbaloye.

Igini emphasised the importance of voters keeping watch over the electoral process and using their phones to record proceedings, saying that leaving polling units unmonitored could create opportunities for election rigging.

In the post accompanying the video, Okinbaloye wrote, “On election day, do not sleep. You have the right by law to use your telephone to do video recording. If you sleep, they will rig the election”.
