Nigerian economist Professor Pat Utomi has reacted to Vice President Kashim Shettima’s remarks about why he respects Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Shettima reportedly said he respected Obi because of his position on fuel subsidy, particularly his declaration that he would not restore it.
Reacting in a post on his official X handle on Monday, October 26, 2026, Utomi criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for repeatedly mentioning Obi in its political messaging.
Utomi suggested that the party’s frequent references to the NDC presidential candidate reflected its recognition of the strength of the political movement associated with Obi.
In his post, Utomi wrote, “The fact that the APC cannot go a day without mentioning Obi’s name in its political sermons suggests that the party recognizes the strength of the OK movement”.
