Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has reacted to a statement by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, concerning his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Obi was quoted in a report published by Vanguard as saying that he had never abused Tinubu or any governor in Nigeria.
Speaking about his approach to public officials, Obi said, “I can not abuse any governor. I cannot abuse anybody in government. I don’t need to abuse people even in federal government. I have never abused anybody. Who has seen me calling President Tinubu’s name? Never! I will not do that”.
The statement drew a reaction from Keyamo, who took to his official X account on September 25, 2026, to comment on Obi’s position.
Without directly mentioning Obi by name in his response, Keyamo used a boxing analogy to make his point.
According to the minister, “In boxing, there are weight classes. From straw weight to heavy weight. You don’t go boxing above your weight”.
Keyamo’s response followed the circulation of the Vanguard report containing Obi’s comments about his approach to President Tinubu and other government officials.
