Kenneth Okonkwo, a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that some of its members place personal wealth ahead of public service.

Okonkwo made the remarks on Arise News Primetime while reacting to comments by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka concerning allegations that individuals paid billions of naira to secure ministerial appointments.

The controversy followed an allegation by APC chieftain Alwan Hassan that some people paid huge sums to obtain ministerial positions. Responding to the issue, Morka reportedly said he would not bother seeking a ministerial position if he had ₦5 billion.

Reacting to Morka’s statement, Okonkwo argued that it reflected an attitude among some members of the ruling party in which personal financial comfort took precedence over serving the public.

Criticising the comment, Okonkwo said, “Felix Morka saying if he had N5 billion, he wouldn’t bother being minister, shows the APC members only think about money going into service.”

The former Nollywood actor further accused wealthy APC members of being indifferent to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians when they had enough personal wealth to enjoy.

“If APC members have loads of money to enjoy at the expense of the welfare of the people, they don’t care about the people,” he added.

Morka had reportedly argued that Hassan’s allegation about payments for ministerial appointments referred to an earlier period and was not directed at the current administration. The claims about payments remain allegations attributed to Hassan.
