According to a report by Leadership, on Wednesday May 6, 2026, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe has called on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Akwa Ibom State to remain calm and not leave the party following ongoing political defections.

‎He spoke in Uyo as reactions continued over reports that some politicians, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, are linked with a move to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Akpanudoedehe said the ADC must remain united and focused despite the wave of political movements affecting opposition parties in the country.

 

‎He warned party leaders, elders, and stakeholders not to be distracted by political speculation or follow trends that could weaken the party structure in the state, the former APC interim national secretary said the goal of the party is to stay strong and continue to hold the ruling party accountable ahead of future elections.

‎He added that members are free to make personal political choices, but urged those still in the ADC to remain committed and avoid panic or division, he described the ADC in Akwa Ibom as stable, saying efforts are ongoing to strengthen its grassroots structure and maintain internal unity across all levels.

‎According to him, political realignments are normal in Nigeria’s democracy, but they should not be allowed to destroy party focus or long-term planning, he reaffirmed his loyalty to the ADC and appealed to members to stay patient while the party works to build stronger influence in the political space.
