Daniel Bwala, a lawyer and Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, has dismissed concerns over political competition ahead of future elections, insisting that the President has consistently proven electoral strength against major rivals.
Speaking during an interview from 12:19 on Arise Television on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Bwala questioned narratives suggesting uncertainty within the ruling political structure, describing such claims as misleading.
“How can you look at this political party of jittery? In fact, it is even disingenuous. But because it is constitutional, where we all come together on the same table, we debate about whether Peter Obi will defeat Ashiwaju, whether Atiku will defeat Ashiwaju,” he said.
Bwala argued that electoral comparisons between President Tinubu and opposition figures do not reflect past political outcomes or governance performance across different levels. “Peter Obi, if Ashiwaju lined up the governors he has trained, five like that, all of them would defeat Peter Obi one by one. In fact, all of them in their governing record in their respective states have done better,” he stated.
He referenced Lagos State as an example, citing governance performance under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. “Jide Sanwo-olu, the governor of Lagos, look at the record in Lagos, better than Peter Obi,” Bwala said.
However, he maintained that democratic participation allows all aspirants to contest and express political ambitions regardless of perceived strength. “But in all political climate, anybody who say he wants to be president must have the right to express himself. If not, Peter Obi is not a non-issue. The other candidate is non-issue,” he added.
Bwala further referenced President Tinubu’s past electoral victories, stating that he has consistently overcome strong political opponents in various contests. “Ashiwaju defeated them when the odds were against him. All of them are his familiar customers. I hope you know that,” he said.
He listed previous electoral contests involving major political figures, highlighting Tinubu’s political track record. “He has defeated Atiku in the main election. Defeated Rotimi Amaechi in the primaries. Defeated Kwankwaso. Defeated Peter Obi. There is nobody new. He’s a familiar customer. In a familiar terrain,” Bwala concluded…Read_More…
