Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari has recalled how Kingsley Chinda came to his aid on three occasions when he was arrested and detained at a police station during his activities as an Ijaw leader.
The former militant leader and traditional ruler made the disclosure during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page from 41:53 on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while discussing his relationships with Rivers State governorship candidates Dumo Lulu-Briggs and Kingsley Chinda, who are associated with different political camps.
Dokubo Asari explained that Chinda had served as the appointed legal adviser to the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and the Ijaw struggle at the time, providing legal services without charge.
Recalling Chinda’s assistance, he said, “For three times Kingsley came to bail me at the police station as an Ijaw leader. Kingsley was our appointed legal adviser of IYC and Ijaw struggle during when I was in the struggle then. And they carried out legal service for us pro bono,” he said.
Despite acknowledging Chinda’s past support, Dokubo said he did not consider him a personal friend or brother, unlike Dumo Lulu-Briggs, whom he described as both a friend and a brother with whom he had maintained a strong relationship.
Explaining his position on the two politicians, Dokubo said, “I have told you severally in this matter. Dumo Lulu-Briggs is my friend and my brother. We have had a very robust relationship,” Dokubo Asari said.
He also addressed criticism over his comments and political choices, arguing that he should not be labelled controversial simply for expressing what he believes to be the truth.
Defending his position, he said, “The things Alhaji Dokubo said is controversial, if telling the truth is controversial, then I am controversial. So when you are tagging people, please don’t tag me,” he said.
Dokubo further spoke about his family ancestry, revealing that his great-grandfather was Igbo. He said his background and life experience had taught him to consider people based on their ability to perform rather than other considerations.
Speaking about his ancestry and how he assesses people, he stated, “On the stool I stand is an Igbo man. My grandfather’s father is an Igbo man. Where I have reached in life, I should look at somebody who can do better,” he stated.
