Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has responded to threats by opposition supporters over the removal of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign posters, warning that the ruling party would retaliate if the materials were pulled down.
Umahi spoke during a media coverage by TVC from 8:53 while addressing criticism over the placement of Tinubu’s posters on the Niger Bridge.
“Some people are saying that we are decorating the Niger Bridge with presidential posters. We are buying the space, we are paying the money to the federation account. Any other person that wants their poster to be there should go through the Ministry of Works. They will pay, and space will be allocated and fixed for them, so that you don’t start losing the nuts in the name of trying to fix your poster. If we fix President Bola Tinubu’s posters and anybody removes them, I will assemble all the APC chairmen in the 36 states plus Abuja, and we will remove every other person’s campaign posters,” he said.
The minister said the display of campaign posters in the designated spaces was subject to payment for the space through the appropriate process.
His comments followed allegations from opposition supporters that they would remove Tinubu’s campaign posters wherever they were displayed.
Umahi warned that anyone who takes down the President’s posters should not expect opposition campaign materials to remain untouched across Nigeria.
He said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would respond by removing other candidates’ campaign posters if Tinubu’s posters were targeted.
