Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari, the traditional ruler of Torusarama-Piri in Elem Kalabari, has explained why he would not publicly campaign against political figures who supported him during difficult periods of his life, including Kingsley Chinda and Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo.

Dokubo made the remarks during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page  from 44:14 on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while discussing his relationships with the two men and his position as a traditional ruler.

He explained that his status prevented him from openly urging Kalabari people to vote for or against any candidate, stressing that any personal political decisions he made would remain private.

Addressing the issue, Dokubo said, “You expect me because as a traditional ruler, I can’t campaign for any candidate. Whatever I want to do will be in my mind. But you cannot expect me to come and stand and say, ‘Kalabari people, don’t vote for Chinda,’” he said.

The traditional ruler also recalled that Keyamo had provided him with legal representation without charge. He questioned how he could later turn against someone who had helped him when he needed legal support.

Referring to the aviation minister’s assistance, Dokubo said, “Even Festus Keyamo who came to defend me pro bono. Tomorrow, Festus Keyamo comes out for something. What moral justification will I have to come and stand and start to talk against him?” he asked.

Dokubo went on to describe the dangers he said he faced during his imprisonment and involvement in the Ijaw struggle, recounting an experience in which he believed his life had been in grave danger.

Recalling his ordeal, he asked, “Do you know what I went through in prison? I was buried alive,” Dokubo Asari said.

He also raised the fate of members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), alleging that some were shot by police after being arrested during the struggle.

Highlighting the dangers faced by the group, he asked, “Do you know how many IYC people that were shot by police after being arrested?”

Reflecting on how he survived those experiences, Dokubo attributed his continued existence to God’s will, suggesting that he might not have survived if his life had not been preserved.

He said, “If God had not destined me to be alive, do you think I will be alive by now? And I know what would have happened,” he said.
