Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats, has urged President Bola Tinubu to address concerns among northern voters about his administration, arguing that he must directly explain how the region would benefit from a second term.

Speaking on Channels TV from 17:37, Ardo said fears that the government favours the Southwest and claims that key government positions are dominated by people from the region were gaining traction in the North.

Explaining what he believes Tinubu must do to secure northern support, Ardo said, “The only thing the president can do to get the North to vote for him is to come clean. There is a general fear that the president is working for the Southwest, and that the critical offices in the country are held by Southwesterners as are all the critical ministries. There’s a lot of disinformation by the opposition, and they are winning. The disinformation of the opposition is not being effectively countered by the regime,” he said.

Ardo argued that the president needed to communicate directly with northern voters and make clear commitments about what they could expect if he secured another term in office.

He suggested that Tinubu could achieve this through a private meeting with northern leaders, followed by a public account of the discussions, or by addressing the country in a national broadcast.
