During a hearing on Justice Court TV from 08:30, two former lovers, Peace Ejiro Emojewve and Chigozie David Nwafor, returned to court over the upkeep of their child, Samuel and to determine the child’s paternity.
The complainant, Peace Ejiro Emojewve was said to have asked the court to compel the man she believed to be the father of her child to take responsibility for the child’s upkeep, while David requested to conduct DNA test on the child.
Explaining why he decided to carry out a DNA test, David was reported to have told Justice Funmi Asaolu that the complainant had repeatedly suggested he might not be Samuel’s father, which made him decide to confirm the truth.
He said he chose to be sure after hearing such statements and after certain conversations and situations that made him suspicious, so he went ahead with the test.
However, when the judge read the DNA results in court, it was revealed that David was not the biological father of the child, whom Peace had been asking the court to make him responsible for.
When Justice Funmi Asaolu asked the complainant if she knew the child’s father, she said she didn’t sleep with anybody while she was in relationship with David.
However, David reacting to her claim said, “If she doesn’t know the father, I can give her a clue. If I remember correctly, there was a time she may have forgotten. She can try to remember when she used to go to Akure back then. If she can recall, she will find the father there.
“We were in school then.”
“She went to school there.”
“We were in school then.”
“You told me we were in school.”
“So, the reason I said this is because in those days, I did not stay in school during weekends. I sponsored myself through school. So, during weekends, I used to come back to Lagos to hustle, and then return during the week for lectures. I believe I met the guy once in my house. So if she says she doesn’t know the father, I don’t think that is true. She knows.”
