According to a report by Fox News from 3:24, on Saturday April 25, 2026, The United States has deployed three carrier strike groups to the Middle East simultaneously the first time this has occurred since 2003.
This massive buildup of naval power, including the USS Abraham Lincoln, the Gerald R. Ford, and the George H.W. Bush, signals a dramatic show of force in the region, encompassing over 200 aircraft and 1,500 sailors and Marines.
Retired Navy SEAL officer and former Recon Marine Mike Sarraille, commenting on the scale of the deployment during a recent appearance on Fox News, emphasized the overwhelming nature of these assets.
Addressing concerns regarding Iranian aggression, such as the use of fast attack boats and the laying of mines in vital waterways, Sarraille expressed confidence in the U.S. military’s ability to counter these threats.
Regarding the challenges of securing these vast maritime areas, Sarraille posed and answered his own questions: “Can we prevent them from laying mines? Can we sweep these mines? Can we prevent these small fast boats from hitting and damaging or killing any of our people? Can we? Yes. Will we? Yes. Does it take time? Absolutely”.
Sarraille explained that the inclusion of “a third carrier strike group is crucial for covering the massive expanse of the straits, which encompasses between 3,000 and 4,500 square miles.”
He highlighted that the U.S. utilizes persistent Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) to identify threats and coordinate strikes with aircraft, noting, “It’s what we’ve been doing in Venezuela, which is a large body of water”.
