Security expert Oyekachi Adekoya has warned that Nigeria’s security challenges can no longer be treated as isolated incidents, arguing that repeated attacks on some of the country’s most heavily protected institutions demonstrate the growing boldness of criminal and terrorist groups.

Speaking during an interview from 6:49 on News Central TV, on Thursday, 4 June, 2026, Adekoya reacted to the persistent attacks by bandits and Boko Haram insurgents across various parts of the country, stressing the urgent need for authorities to halt the trend before it further undermines national security.

According to him, the ability of armed groups to target strategic military and government assets over the years should serve as a wake-up call to policymakers and security agencies.

“They have attacked the Guard Brigade in Abuja. The Guard Brigade is responsible for protecting the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. They have attacked the NDA, they have attacked the convoy of then president Buhari, even Jonathan’s convoy was attacked. How dare they not,” Adekoya said.

The security expert noted that attacks on high-profile targets send a dangerous signal about the capabilities and confidence of criminal elements operating within the country. He argued that when institutions and individuals at the highest levels of government become targets, ordinary citizens inevitably become more vulnerable.

Adekoya referenced past incidents involving the Guards Brigade in Abuja, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), and presidential convoys, saying such occurrences highlight the need for stronger intelligence gathering, improved coordination among security agencies, and more proactive measures to prevent attacks before they occur.

He maintained that the continued activities of bandits and insurgents have contributed to widespread fear, displacement, and economic hardship in many communities.
