According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, on Saturday May 9, 2026, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan would be a strong candidate if he decides to enter the 2027 presidential race, stating that Jonathan would perform well on the ballot and could change the competition for all contenders.
He noted that any election involving Jonathan would be highly competitive for both ruling and opposition figures, including President Bola Tinubu, he added that Jonathan’s presence in the race would make it more difficult for other candidates to secure victory, according to him, the former president still has political weight and national recognition that could influence voters across regions.
Ayodele stated that Jonathan could attract support beyond Nigeria if he joins the race, he said international backers and financial sponsors may show interest in his candidacy, he linked this to Jonathan’s past role as president and his global political connections and suggested that such external attention could strengthen his campaign if he chooses to run.
