According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Arise News on Friday, May 29, 2026, APC chieftain and former minority leader in the House of Representatives, Farouq Aliyu, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, arguing that the administration’s policies were unavoidable given the fiscal pressures inherited at inception.

Speaking from 6:01 on Arise News, Aliyu acknowledged widespread hardship triggered by the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange liberalisation, but maintained that successive governments had failed to muster the political will to act on what he described as a long-standing fraud.

On the administration’s overall scorecard, Aliyu pointed to infrastructure expansion, the student loan scheme, broader health insurance coverage, and ongoing foreign direct investment efforts as evidence of progress, urging Nigerians to exercise patience.

He also addressed concerns over insecurity, describing urban warfare against non-state actors as inherently complex, while insisting the military and security agencies were making genuine sacrifices to protect citizens.
