In a recent video from 3:22 shared on Facebook on Friday, May 29, 2026, Primate Elijah Ayodele spoke to Nigerians about civic responsibility ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging voters to be more conscious of their choices at the polls.

In the video, Ayodele stated, “Don’t sell your conscience for a bag of rice and ₦20,000 or ₦15,000.” He cautioned citizens against exchanging their votes for immediate financial or material gains, stressing that such decisions could have long-term consequences for governance and national development.

According to Ayodele, elections are a critical moment in any democracy, and the choices made by voters directly determine the quality of leadership they will experience. He noted that short-term incentives offered during campaigns often do not translate into meaningful improvements in people’s lives after elections.

Ayodele further emphasized that poverty and economic hardship should not be exploited to influence voting behaviour.
