Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has raised concerns regarding the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while questioning the timing and nature of public reactions to the issue.

Sowore made the remarks during an interview from 7:45 aired by Symfoni TV on Monday, April 13, 2026, where he addressed ongoing debates surrounding the appointment of the INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan.

During the interview, he stated that he had previously expressed reservations about the appointment, citing observations made during an earlier meeting.

He said, “This whole noise they are making about that INEC chairman. I’d already spoken about it I told you that his chief security officer was appointed by somebody in the villa. He’s spokesperson was up this was a month ago. When I went to meet with him I came out and told you that this man cannot be trusted.”

He further questioned the recent surge in criticism, suggesting that concerns about the chairman’s perceived political alignment had been raised earlier: “So you have just now found your voice and you are shouting oh this man is on Twitter he is supporting Tinubu.”

Sowore also commented on the nature of political support expressed on social media, indicating that such activities may not be the primary issue of concern: “The people that are supporting Tinubu on Twitter are less dangerous than the ones that are not on Twitter.”

He extended his remarks to include other public officials, referencing positions of influence within the government: “Yes, this one’s the central bank governor. Is he on Twitter? And he’s the 37th governor for the election, so just sometimes we just need to be serious.” Read_More…
