A widow from Benue State, Alladi Simon, has alleged that her late husband’s elder brother demanded his ATM card just hours after his death, leaving her worried about how she would provide for their children.

Simon made the allegation during an interview from 6:44 with Brekete Family in a video published on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

She said her husband, a Superintendent of Police attached to the Special Protection Unit of the FCT Command, died on October 1, 2016. According to her account, the family took his body to a mortuary before she was asked to visit her late husband’s family home to explain what had happened.

Simon alleged that she arrived at the family home with her mother and elder sister at about 8 p.m. The following morning, October 2, at around 4 a.m., her husband’s elder brother, identified as Francis Zako, whom she described as a customs officer, came to the room where they were sleeping and requested the deceased’s ATM card.

She said she questioned the demand because her husband had instructed her to use the money in his account to pay their children’s school fees and cater for them after his death.

Simon further alleged that Zako withdrew the entire balance of approximately ₦1.5 million, leaving her without the money. She also accused her in-laws of selling her late husband’s land and frustrating her attempts to obtain a letter of administration.

Recounting what happened that morning, Simon said, “ Immediately after my husband died, we deposited his body in the mortuary. His family then asked me to come and explain what had happened to their brother.

We went to their family home. We arrived at about 8 p.m., and the following morning, October 2, at about 4 a.m., my husband’s elder brother, Francis, came to the room where my mother, my elder sister and I were sleeping.

He knocked on the door. When I asked who was there, he identified himself. After we opened the door, he demanded my husband’s ATM card.

I refused to understand why he wanted the card because my husband had told me that I should use the money in his account to pay our children’s school fees and support them after his death.”
