According to a report by Premium Times on Monday, March 16, 2026, veteran Yoruba actress Remi Surutu has openly backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general election.

She made her stance clear at the launch of EKO57, a political support group formed to rally Nigerians behind the president’s possible second-term bid.

The Lagos event drew several entertainers and supporters, including actors Yomi Fash-Lanso and Adams Kehinde, popularly known as Lege Miami. Organisers said EKO57 aims to drive grassroots mobilisation and encourage political participation.

Speaking at the event, Surutu traced her support for Tinubu back to his time as governor of Lagos State and said she has stayed loyal despite criticism online.

She said,

“I have said it myself, I am not backing out. I am going to campaign for him and vote for him. And he has my vote, and I am voting for him. And if you see anybody out there trying to scare anybody, if you plan to kill me, you are going to kill yourself. Because when you are going on your straight line with your good hearts, nothing happens to you. There are so many antipathies. When they want to take money, they will come, and I will be with you. They will leave, they will go to another place, I am with you.”

She acknowledged that public figures often face backlash for political endorsements but stressed that everyone has the right to support leaders they believe in.

The formation of EKO57 marks one of the first moves to mobilise supporters ahead of 2027. Such groups organise outreach, discussions, and events to educate voters and encourage participation.

Since taking office in 2023, Tinubu’s government has continued policies and programmes aligned with its agenda, and political conversations around 2027 are already gaining momentum across Nigeria. Read_More…
