Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan, Oyo State, has spoken about the operation that led to the rescue of the teachers and schoolchildren kidnapped in Oriire LGA.
Speaking in a video from 6:41 shared by Channels Television, General Nnebeife said the military kept increasing pressure on the terrorists until they were willing to release the hostages without conditions. He stated that the military was not only interested in securing the victims’ release but also in ending the activities of the terrorists operating in the area.
General Nnebeife said the military lost some personnel during the rescue operation. He stated that the army lieutenant who was killed during the operation was buried in Adamawa State on the same day the victims were rescued. He said the bravery and ultimate sacrifice of the military men who died would never be forgotten.
