Lawyer and public affairs analyst Frank Tietie has questioned the Federal Government’s priorities in responding to security challenges following the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of kidnappers.

Tietie made the remarks during an interview from 7:42 on Arise News, on Sunday, 14 June, 2026, while reacting to the circumstances surrounding the death of the retired senior military officer.

Commenting on the tragedy, the lawyer contrasted the Federal Government’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State with what he described as an inadequate response to growing insecurity that has claimed numerous lives across the country.

“You could declare State of emergency in Rivers State because Wike’s interest was threatened. And then people have died to the extent that your own General was killed in that manner,” Tietie said.

According to him, the death of the retired military officer highlights the severity of the security crisis and raises questions about whether sufficient attention is being given to threats posed by kidnappers and other criminal groups. He argued that the government should demonstrate the same level of urgency in addressing insecurity as it has shown in handling political disputes.

Tietie noted that the killing of a retired major general by kidnappers sends a troubling message to Nigerians, many of whom already feel vulnerable amid rising cases of abduction and violent crime.
