Obaseki George, a political scientist, has stated that President Bola Tinubu was one of the NADECO activists who fought for democracy after the June 12, 1993 election was cancelled

In an interview from 1:08:35 with Channels Television, George said Tinubu poured sand on the Third Mainland Bridge to block traffic during a protest against military rule

George added that Tinubu spent his own money to fight for democracy, even though it put his life, his wife’s life, and his children’s lives at risk.

In George’s words: “They don’t know a Comrade Bola Tinubu that went to pour sand on Third Mainland Bridge to cause traffic just to make sure that they take on the military government. They did know a Bola Tinubu who with his personal money, at the risk of his life, his wife’s life and his children’s life, fought the military”.
