Rivers elder stateswoman and women’s rights activist, Annkio Briggs, has sent a strong message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying that removing a governor who enjoys massive support from the people may not end well politically.
Speaking during an interview from 6:40 on Channels Television, Briggs stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s defection from the PDP to the APC should ordinarily have been a political advantage for President Tinubu and the ruling party.
According to her, Governor Fubara has continued to enjoy what she described as “organic support” from the people of Rivers State since assuming office, and such support should naturally have strengthened the APC politically following his move to the party.
In her words:
“The organic support that the governor has enjoyed since he became governor would ordinarily have also been in the interest of the president the moment the governor moved over from PDP to APC.”
Briggs, however, argued that the current political developments in Rivers State are creating doubts about whether the president will truly enjoy the same level of goodwill and public support that Governor Fubara has earned among the people.
She warned that removing or sidelining a governor who is strongly backed by the masses could create further political tension rather than stability.
Speaking further, she said:
“Now, what is playing out gives rise to doubts and assumptions that the president is going to enjoy what the governor has enjoyed. You can’t remove, or you shouldn’t remove, the governor that is wanted by the people and then assume that everything is going to be alright.”….Read_More…
