According to a report by The Cable on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Aisha Achimugu, a businesswoman, has dismissed allegations that her wealth is tied to her relationship with Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State, maintaining that her financial success predates any such association.

She made this known during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, where she explained that her journey into business began in 2001, long before her name became widely known in political and social circles.

Achimugu, who is the founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, stated that her career has been built over years of consistent engagement in the business sector.

In January 2024, Achimugu attracted widespread attention after hosting an elaborate seven-day celebration in Grenada to mark her 50th birthday.

The event drew prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment industry as well as influential personalities, including the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

More than a year after the celebration, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission declared her wanted over allegations related to money laundering.

The situation escalated on April 29, 2025, when she was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Subsequently, in March 2026, a federal high court sitting in Abuja issued a final forfeiture order involving $13 million said to be connected to Achimugu and her company, Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd.

The presiding judge, Emeka Nwite, ruled that the anti-graft agency had sufficiently established that the funds were proceeds derived from fraudulent activities.

Following the court’s ruling, the company indicated that it had begun the process of challenging the judgment through an appeal.

Amid ongoing public discourse, reports emerged suggesting that Achimugu’s business activities were allegedly backed by certain political figures.
