The Inspector General of Police’s Special Tactical Squad of the Federal Intelligence Department has arrested the members of a notorious syndicate responsible for one-chance robberies and kidnappings across the Federal Capital Territory.
The leader of the syndicate, who was identified as Solomon Haruna Abot, revealed how the gang operated and how they target unsuspecting women at roadsides and bus stops.
Speaking from 1:27 during a police parade reported by NTA News, the suspect said, “When we see a lady standing at the roadside, one of us will come down to go and stand with the lady for them to both board the car together. When she enters, we make sure that the lady sits in the middle.”
He went on to describe how the gang restrained their victims using cord to bind their hands and a scarf to blindfold them, before rifling through their bags and phones for cash and valuables.
He noted that when victims had no money on them, the gang would force them to call family members or friends and demand transfers directly into their accounts and only releasing the victim after withdrawing the funds.
