According to New York Post, U.S. President Donald Trump has said he has left standing instructions for a devastating military response against Iran should Tehran ever succeed in assassinating him, escalating his rhetoric amid renewed tensions between Washington and the Islamic Republic.
In an interview with the New Post, Trump said he had already directed advisers on how the United States should respond if he were killed in an Iranian assassination plot.
“If they do that, just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before,” Trump said, describing the orders he claimed to have left behind in the event of his assassination.
The president’s remarks come after The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel recently shared intelligence with Trump suggesting Iran was allegedly planning an assassination attempt against him. CNN also reported that the intelligence referred to a “specific” alleged plot, although neither report provided operational details.
Trump dismissed suggestions that the threat was new, saying Iran has considered him a target since the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.
