The Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State has confirmed the abduction of several pupils and teachers following coordinated attacks on two schools in Orire Local Government Area of the state. The spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this during an interview from 1:49 on Channels Television on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Ayanlade said the incident occurred on May 15 at about 9:30 a.m. in the Yawata and Isiele communities, where armed attackers invaded two schools simultaneously. “The incident happened on the 15th, about 9.30 hours in the morning at the Yawata and the Isiele community, both in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State,” he said.

According to him, the attackers arrived on motorcycles and carried out coordinated assaults on the schools. “The attackers, numbering about 12, came on motorcycles and simultaneously attacked two schools,” Ayanlade stated.

He explained that one of the affected institutions housed both primary and secondary school sections, while the second school was identified as Baptist National Primary School in Yawata. “In one of the schools, we have a primary and secondary school together, and the other one, which happened to be a private school, Baptist National Primary School in Yawata,” he said.

The police spokesperson confirmed that 18 persons were abducted during the attack at the Yawata community school. He also revealed that an assistant principal identified as Mr. Adesiyum was killed during the incident. “And the attackers almost simultaneously attacked, abducted 18 in the Yawata community National Primary School. They also killed an assistant principal, Mr. Adesiyum,” he stated.

Ayanlade added that the attackers also killed a commercial motorcyclist, popularly known as an Okada rider, before fleeing with his motorcycle. “And a bike rider, popularly called Okada rider, dropping their own motorcycle and carting away with his own motorcycle,” he added.

Speaking further, he said another attack occurred in the Isiele community, where the principal and another staff member identified as Mr. and Mrs. Alamu were abducted.

“While that was happening, on the other side at the Isiele community National Primary School, they abducted the principal, who was Mr. and Mrs. Alamu, and they took a vehicle to the forest, where the vehicle was eventually recovered,” Ayanlade said.

The police spokesperson noted that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Johnson Adenola Abimbola, immediately ordered a massive security operation following the incident.

“Immediately this report was received, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Abimbola, PSC, MNIPS, directed a massive manhunt in collaboration with other security agencies, and we’ve been on it,” he stated.

He added that additional personnel and operational assets had been deployed to the affected communities to prevent further breakdown of law and order. “Additional assets and personnel were moved to the area and the community to ensure, and further avoid or prevent, a breakdown of law and order,” Ayanlade said….Read_More…
