Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi has said that the current political realities in Nigeria do not favour the emergence of an Igbo president in the 2027 general election, despite growing interest from some South-East politicians expected to seek the nation’s highest office.

Speaking during an interview from 4:13, Nwaebonyi discussed the political calculations ahead of the next presidential election and referenced the ambitions of prominent figures from the South-East, including former Anambra State governor.

According to the senator, while many people in the region desire an Igbo presidency, the present political arrangement and alliance structure across the country make such an outcome difficult in 2027. He stressed that electoral victory in Nigeria depends heavily on broad national support and political permutations beyond regional sentiments.

“Even if our son comes to contest, it is very clear that the political permutation at present does not favour an Igbo man to be president of Nigeria,” Nwaebonyi said during the interview.
