According to a report by Daily Trust on Friday, April 24, 2026, gunmen have reportedly carried out a deadly attack in Olegabulu community, located in Benue State, leaving five people dead, including a traditional ruler, his wife, his son, and two other residents.
The incident happened on Thursday night and has drawn attention within the local area due to the profile of the victims and the manner in which the attack was executed.
Community members described the event as sudden and highly coordinated, with the assailants moving through the area without immediate resistance.
According to residents who spoke about the incident, the attackers arrived in the community on two motorcycles.
They were said to have approached the residence of the traditional ruler without attracting suspicion.

There, they continued their operation and killed two additional residents.

After carrying out the killings, the assailants reportedly fled the area on their motorcycles, leaving behind confusion and fear among those who later discovered what had happened.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the attackers did not initially behave in a suspicious manner upon entering the community.
Some residents said the men interacted with locals and exchanged greetings in the local dialect spoken in the area.
This interaction made it difficult for people to identify them as a threat before the attack began.
One resident, who asked not to be identified, stated that the attackers appeared calm and did not display any immediate sign of hostility when they first arrived.
