According to a report by Fox News from 1:37, on Monday May 4, 2026, In a stark assessment of escalating tensions in the Middle East, former USS Cole Commanding Officer Kirk Lippold stated that a strategic military blockade has successfully placed Iran in a vice, effectively severing the nation from global commerce.

Speaking on the current transition from kinetic operations to economic isolation, Lippold argued that the United States and its allies have achieved a position of extreme leverage over the Iranian regime.

Lippold emphasized that the current strategy is the perfect transition following recent military strikes by the U.S. and Israel, which targeted Iranian missile capabilities and leadership.

He noted that while the infrastructure for Iran’s oil industry remains intact for now, its future depends entirely on Tehran’s willingness to abandon its nuclear ambitions.

“By transitioning into the blockade, we have literally cut Iran off from the world,” Lippold said. “We have grabbed them by the economic throat. We have left the infrastructure for their future in that the oil industry is still there, but eventually, if Iran does not want to come to the table and negotiate that key component which is no nuclear program or even the ability to keep centrifuges to enrich uranium then their economy is eventually going to shut down.”

The former commander, known for his leadership during the 2000 Al-Qaeda attack on the USS Cole, called for a fundamental shift in how the U.S. handles the Iranian threat.

He argued that the traditional military doctrine of “proportional response” is no longer sufficient when dealing with a state seeking nuclear weapons.

“When you’re dealing with a country that is in pursuit of a nuclear weapon, a proportional response is not an option,” Lippold asserted. “It must be overwhelmingly crushing the regime and their ability to reconstitute any type of nuclear program or any program whatsoever.”

He further noted that as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, Iran must be decisively defeated, suggesting that the U.S. should dictate the terms of surrender.

The message to the Iranian leadership is clear: the economic pressure will only intensify until they cease their regional aggression and nuclear development.

“Their oil industry is going to be impacted and they are going to learn that it does not work to try and build nuclear weapons, project power, and shoot ballistic missiles at other people, much less try and close off world trade through the Strait of Hormuz,” Lippold warned…Read_More…
