According to a report by The Jerusalem Post on Monday, April 27, 2026, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Tehran is reviewing a request from US President Donald Trump to engage in negotiations, according to remarks shared on his official Telegram channel.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to Russia, Araghchi said the US president had called for dialogue after failing to achieve what he described as Washington’s objectives in ongoing tensions with Iran.
The comments came during high-level talks in St. Petersburg, where Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Araghchi earlier on Monday. Putin expressed hope that the Iranian people would overcome what he called a “difficult period” and said he expected peace to be restored in the region.
“For our part, we will do everything that serves your interests and the interests of all the peoples of the region to ensure that peace is achieved as quickly as possible,” Putin said, according to Russian state media.
The Russian leader also referenced a message he said he had recently received from Iran’s Supreme Leader, asking Araghchi to convey his appreciation. He reaffirmed Moscow’s intention to maintain what he described as a strategic partnership with Tehran.
Araghchi’s visit to Russia followed a series of regional diplomatic engagements, including discussions in Pakistan and Oman, as part of broader efforts involving indirect communication channels between Tehran and Washington.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that US President Donald Trump recently cancelled a planned visit by his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad, where talks on ending regional tensions were expected to continue.
Trump has previously stated that Iran is aware of Washington’s position and suggested that communication remains possible through established secure channels, though formal negotiations have yet to resume.
