Marco Rubio, the United States Secretary of State, has said that the era in which terrorist organisations are able to hold entire nations hostage is coming to an end.
In a post shared on his verified X account, on Sunday May 24, 2026, Rubio expressed the United States’ strong support for the legitimate government of Lebanon as it continues efforts to restore state authority and build a more stable future for its citizens. He stated that Hezbollah’s threats of violence and attempts to destabilise the country would not succeed.
Rubio further stressed that Lebanon’s sovereignty must be protected, adding that international backing remains important as the government works to strengthen its institutions and maintain order.
