Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has accused Israel of hindering peace efforts in the Middle East. He stated that Israel’s unwillingness to pull out of Syrian and Lebanese land is blocking any substantial political resolution.

As reported by the Jerusalem Post, Sharaa expressed these views in a recent conversation with US President Donald Trump.

He allegedly claimed that talks with Israel have come to a standstill because Israeli leaders have dismissed calls to include a pledge for military withdrawal in any future deals.

“Why would we agree to a deal with Israel as long as it continues to stay?” Sharaa supposedly told Trump, emphasizing that Israel’s ongoing military presence is the largest barrier to achieving stability in the region.

The Syrian president also brought up the situation regarding Hezbollah, stating that the Lebanese militia cannot be disarmed while Israeli troops occupy parts of Lebanon.

Sharaa cautioned that any efforts to forcibly disarm Hezbollah under current conditions could lead to widespread disorder and instability throughout the region, asserting that such turmoil would ultimately benefit Israel.

The report added that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan shared similar worries during his own talks with Trump.
