According to a video from 00:01:43 posted on Al Jazeera on Monday, July 27, 2026, Rob Geist Pinfold warned that the United States faces a long road to rebuilding its depleted missile stockpiles following its recent war with Iran.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Pinfold said the scale of the US’s military response was extraordinary, describing it as the country using “everything the US had saved for a rainy day.”
He said at least half of America’s Patriot missile supply and roughly half of its THAAD interceptor stock were used during the conflict, alongside more than a thousand Tomahawk missiles, a number that far outpaces the 90 to 100 the US produces each year.
Because these figures reflect the country’s entire global stockpile rather than Middle East-specific reserves, Pinfold said the shortfall also affects deterrence posture toward China and Russia.
In his words, Rob Geist Pinfold said, “It’s going to take a very, very long time for the US to restock what it’s used. And it’s of course important to note that this is the US’s global stockpile of these munitions,” he said.
Pinfold said the mismatch between the resources spent and the results achieved is telling.
Despite the scale of the assault, he said Washington failed to force regime change or any systemic change in Iran’s behaviour, calling it evidence of “the lack of strategic foresight” in the campaign.
He added that the current lull in fighting suggests both Washington and Tehran prefer negotiation to renewed conflict, even as core disagreements, including control of the Strait of Hormuz, remain unresolved and continue to weigh on the global economy.
