Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed it carried out a ballistic missile strike on the United States’ Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, alleging that the attack destroyed the facility’s command and control centre along with hangars housing MQ-9 Reaper drones.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the IRGC said its aerospace forces launched the operation in retaliation for what it described as recent U.S. airstrikes on military installations and telecommunications infrastructure along Iran’s southern coast.
According to Al Jazeera, the group characterized the strike as the opening phase of what it called “a crushing response to U.S. attacks.”
According to the statement, the American military launched attacks after Iranian forces blocked an alleged attempt to direct several vessels through what Tehran described as an unauthorized maritime route south of the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC said Prince Hassan Air Base was targeted because it allegedly serves as a strategic hub for U.S. military operations in the region.
It claimed the missile barrage successfully destroyed vital infrastructure, including the command headquarters and facilities used to operate MQ-9 Reaper surveillance and combat drones.
The statement also accused Washington of pressuring the Sultanate of Oman in relation to regional maritime developments.
The IRGC warned that any further U.S. military action against Iran would provoke stronger retaliation, asserting that Tehran remains prepared to defend its territory and strategic interests.
