Collins Opurozor, Special Adviser to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma on Electronic and Creative Media, has dismissed claims that his principal is pursuing the position of Senate President while still serving as governor.

Speaking during an interview from 14:28 with Arise News on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Opurozor said he could not recall Uzodimma expressing such an ambition to anyone. He also defended the governor’s performance, arguing that political opponents should focus on his record in office rather than speculate about his intentions.

Responding to allegations that Uzodimma was overambitious, Opurozor maintained that the governor had never publicly declared an interest in the Senate presidency.

He said, “I can’t remember my principal telling anybody that he wants to be senate president. He has never said it for once. Well, you know there’s one thing about performance in public office especially under democratic dispensation.”

Opurozor further argued that a public office holder who believes in his performance should have no reason to be intimidated by criticism. He insisted that Uzodimma was still working to meet the expectations of Imo residents.

Defending the administration’s record, he pointed to ongoing projects and the reconstruction of some abandoned projects attributed to previous administrations, including those associated with former governor Rochas Okorocha. He said some of the rebuilt projects would soon be commissioned.

He added, “If you assess yourself, self-introspection, and you think you’ve done well, you have absolutely no reason to be scared of your own shadows. The man you’re fighting has never told you that he wants to be senate president.”

He also maintained that even if Uzodimma wanted to become Senate President, pursuing the position would be within his constitutional rights.

Opurozor concluded, “Assuming, but not considering, that he wants to be senate president, it is within his right to be that. And if anybody is fighting him because he thinks that he wants to be senate president, he should understand one very fundamental logic about the Nigerian federation that stands on three legs—it’s a tripod”.
