Atedo Peterside, founder of IBTC Bank and President of ANAP Foundation, has recalled cautioning former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai about the risks of being a kingmaker in politics.
Speaking from from 19:53 on Arise TV while discussing El-Rufai’s continued detention, Peterside said he had warned the former governor to be watchful, given his role in helping President Bola Tinubu emerge as Nigeria’s leader.
Peterside described El-Rufai as a key political figure who helped shape the outcome of the presidential contest, adding that he had personally shared the warning with him before their political disagreement with Tinubu.
He said, “Look at Nasir El-Rufai who has been incarcerated endlessly. This is somebody that many of us know was the kingmaker. Although I told Nasir to his face, you can ask him if you see him in the cell, I told him ‘You are the kingmaker and Machiavelli predicted 400 years ago, the first person the king goes after is the kingmaker so you better watch out’”
