Former National Human Rights Commission chairman Professor Chidi Odinkalu has weighed in on a viral video showing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan handing out cash to constituents in Kogi Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The footage sparked conversations online, prompting Odinkalu to comment on the legal distinction between spraying banknotes and distributing cash.
In a post on X, the human rights lawyer referenced the EFCC’s guidance on handling the naira, arguing that the two acts should not be treated as the same offence. He also alluded to originating summons procedure in his response.
Odinkalu wrote: “According to the manual of @officialEFCC, spraying Naira is a crime; distributing it is not. If you don’t know the difference, find someone to explain originating summons procedure to you!”
