Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has alleged that people in her constituents are no longer asking her for money but for food amid the recent fuel hike and high cost of food.
Speaking in an interview from 13:41 with Arise TV, Kingibe said, “The cost of food is phenomenal. I can show you my phone, people are not begging me for money, they are begging me for food. Some people in my office say, ‘Madam, we can’t come to work. Can we stagger who comes to work in what days?’ And these are the ones who even have jobs. Things are not good.”
Kingibe also drew a direct connection between the worsening economic conditions and the growing number of young people who took to the streets in protest over the delisting of the ADC leadership by INEC.
