Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his reported defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the National Democratic Coalition (NDC).

Melaye, in a post shared on his X handle, questioned Obi’s ability to manage the complexities of governing Nigeria, alleging that the former Anambra State governor avoids political challenges within party structures.

“Peter Obi excused himself from tough situations. If he cannot face party tribulations and crisis, how does he intend to handle Nigeria? Because Nigeria wahala pass ADC problems,” he said.

The former senator further criticised Obi’s political trajectory, claiming he has historically benefited from consensus arrangements rather than competitive primaries.

“He can only operate in an air-conditioned kitchen. Hot kitchens are not for him. He has never gone through primary—APGA gave him free governorship ticket, Atiku gave him free vice-presidential ticket, Labour gave free presidential ticket,” Melaye alleged.

He added that Obi’s reported move to the NDC was aimed at securing another “free ticket,” while also alleging that the coalition has links with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
