According to a video from 01:34 posted on Channels TV on Wednesday July 15, 2026, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, said one kidnapper was shot and caught while another was arrested during the rescue operation in Era forest.
She gave this account while briefing journalists on the successful rescue of three abducted Ambrose Alli University students in Edo State.
The three female students were kidnapped during an attack on Ugbema GT extension on Sunday, July 12, an attack that also left a 300-level student, Peter Adolo, dead from gunfire.
In response, a joint security team carried out an intelligence-led operation that traced the kidnappers to a hideout in Era forest, leading to a gun battle on Tuesday, July 14.
During the exchange of gunfire, security operatives overpowered the kidnappers, forcing them to release their captives and scatter into the forest.
Giving further details on the outcome of the operation, Ikoedem confirmed that not all the suspects escaped.
In her words, Ikoedem said, “One suspected kidnapper was neutralized, apprehended with serious gunshot injuries,” she said, referring to the outcome of the confrontation between security forces and the fleeing suspects.
Ikoedem said the operation also resulted in the arrest of a second suspect, in addition to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, magazines, and 36 rounds of live ammunition from the kidnappers’ hideout.
She said the rescued students were rushed to hospital where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The police spokesperson said the command remains committed to tracking down the remaining members of the kidnap gang who are still on the run, and assured residents that security operatives would continue working to secure the area around Ekpoma and its surrounding communities….See More
