A PDP Chieftain, Segun Showunmi has praised the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to manage the exchange rate and control inflation. He lamented that the current government has mismanaged the economy by running two currencies simultaneously.

He accused the government of living extravagantly while expecting citizens to empathize with them, and argues that a transformational government should start by transforming itself. He further expressed concern that the government’s actions are causing hardship for ordinary Nigerians who are struggling to afford basic necessities like food. He emphasized that Nigerians are not opposed to price increases per se but are frustrated with the constant changes in prices.

He said in an interview with Channels TV from 19:09, ”Buhari was smart enough to know that you need to control the currency in circulation to manage inflation by changing the currency. But what did they do when they took over from him? They started running two currencies at the same time. Buhari managed the exchange rate and he was really tightening his belt but the expert came in and changed everything.

They want to be living in plenty and they expect the citizens to empathize with them. If you want to run a transformational government, you start transforming it from your side. You can’t be showing us that we have all the money in the world with your luxurious lifestyle and you expect the Nigerian people to accept that. People are not so much averse to increase in prices but not in this manner, prices of food and commodities changes everyday. And even a Common Nigeria man struggles to eat once in a day now. We all own this country together and we don’t want anything to happen to our democracy. You can’t be putting your fingers in peoples faces and expect them not to fight back.”….VïewMôre
