Factional National Vice Chairman (South West) of the Labour Party, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, has revealed that he regrets supporting Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
Arabambi made the statement during an interview from 23:33 on Arise News while discussing developments within the Labour Party and the state of Nigerian politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, his change of position is linked to concerns he developed about the party’s internal operations and the conduct of some of its leaders during the last election cycle.
He said: “I voted for Peter Obi in 2023 and I regretted it.”
The Labour Party chieftain explained that he no longer believes Obi demonstrated the level of transparency and accountability he expected from someone seeking Nigeria’s highest office.
According to him, questions surrounding the management of party affairs and campaign-related activities contributed to his disappointment.
Arabambi alleged that certain actions taken during the 2023 election period raised concerns about integrity and transparency within the party. He argued that these concerns have affected his confidence in Obi’s leadership credentials.
The politician also used the interview to express support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, suggesting that the current government should be given more time to implement its policies and economic reforms.
According to him, Nigeria needs stability and continuity rather than frequent changes in direction.
His remarks come at a time when the Labour Party continues to face internal disputes and leadership disagreements, with different factions expressing opposing views on the future of the party and its role in the country’s political landscape.
