In a recent interview from 13:52 on Arise TV, on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (South West), discussed the ongoing crisis within the Labour Party and its implications for the 2027 general elections. The conversation focused on party unity, leadership disputes, and the relationship between the party and former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

During the interview, Arabambi claimed that Obi’s emergence on another political platform would not automatically end disagreements between the former candidate and members of the Labour Party. He argued that many party stakeholders remain dissatisfied with events that unfolded before and after the 2023 elections.

Speaking during the interview, Arabambi stated, “Now that he has emerged, he is going to have a very tough battle with some of us in the LP.” He used the remark to emphasize that political disagreements between Obi and certain factions within the party remain unresolved.

Arabambi further explained that the Labour Party continues to grapple with competing leadership claims and internal divisions. According to him, these disputes have created challenges for the party as it seeks to reposition itself ahead of future elections.

He maintained that some party members believe their concerns have not been adequately addressed and that efforts to resolve longstanding disagreements are still ongoing. He expressed confidence that legal and organizational processes would eventually determine the direction of the party.

The Labour Party chieftain also reflected on the broader state of opposition politics in Nigeria, noting that internal conflicts across several parties have complicated efforts to build a cohesive alternative to the ruling establishment.
