Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo Asari, former militant leader and traditional ruler of Torusarama-Piri in Elem Kalabari, has challenged individuals seeking political support from the Kalabari people to explain their contributions to the community.

He made the remarks during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page from 37:48 on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while discussing political activities ahead of the Rivers State election. He also warned people living in his community against insulting him or making statements he considered disrespectful.

Issuing the warning, Dokubo Asari said, “If you cannot stay with me, cohabit with me in this community, I don’t need you. You cannot stay on my land and continue to insult or talk rubbish. It is not possible,”

Speaking about the election, he said he had seen people sharing his photograph in political discussions involving the Kalabari community. He questioned their intentions and referred to his position as a traditional ruler.

Explaining his concerns, Dokubo Asari said, “About Rivers State election, I saw some people putting my picture, Kalabari people. Let me tell you, I am an Amanyanabo of the Source, yes. Somebody said I am a Kalabari man. I want to become governor,”

He also questioned whether those seeking votes from the community understood how voter registration works under the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that some people associate themselves with the Kalabari people when they need electoral support.

Challenging them on the issue, he said, “Do you know where people are registering in INEC? Do you know how people register in INEC? You don’t know but people become Kalabari when they want to come and beg for our vote,”

The former militant leader further asked what the individuals had done for Kalabari land, particularly when the community needed people to defend its interests. He questioned whether they had contributed financially or supported him in the past.

Raising those questions, Dokubo Asari said, “What have you done in Kalabari land? When Kalabari needed men to defend her, where were you? Have you ever contributed a dime? Have you supported me before?”

He concluded by defending his right to decide which candidate to support in the election, insisting that his choice should not lead to him being labelled controversial.
