FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has recalled how a former Rivers State governor insisted that the unwritten power-sharing agreement between northern and southern Nigeria should be respected when former President Goodluck Jonathan was seeking re-election in 2015.

Speaking from 11:49 during a media coverage by Channels TV, Wike appeared to be referring to Rotimi Amaechi, the ADC vice-presidential candidate, as he accused him of abandoning the principle of power rotation he had previously supported.

Recalling Amaechi’s position during the 2015 APC campaign, Wike said the former governor had argued that Jonathan’s re-election bid would violate the understanding between the North and South. He added that Amaechi had expressed pride in leading a campaign that removed an incumbent president while preserving the power-sharing arrangement.

Wike questioned why Amaechi no longer appeared to stand by the same principle, asking what had changed since then.

The FCT minister also criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, questioning whether his political commitments could be relied upon because of what Wike described as inconsistency.

Recounting the former governor’s position during the 2015 campaign, Wike said, “A one-time governor of Rivers State said that we must obey the conventional agreement between the South and the North, and that if the former president ran, it means that we are violating the unwritten agreement between the South and the North. And he was happy. He said history will remember him for having led a campaign that removed a sitting president, and secondly made sure that the unwritten agreement between the North and South stood firm,”
