‎In a recent statement via his official X account on Wednesday September 16, 2026, human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has weighed in on the political debate over the financial history of Anambra State involving supporters of former Governor Peter Obi and the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo.

‎”Obidients want to teach a Professor of economics and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria about financial audit. Obi matter will soon make Obidients run mad. Governor Soludo graduated with First Class in economics and became a Professor of Economics at the age of 39. If he says Obi left Anambra in debt, Obi did. And the evidence choke!” he wrote.

‎In his post, Adeyanju was responding to criticisms of Soludo’s financial assessment of the state, Adeyanju defended Governor Soludo against recent attacks from some of Obi’s supporters, popularly known as “Obidients.”

‎The supporters had questioned Soludo’s claims about the state’s finances, Soludo had said that Obi left Anambra State with significant debts when he left office.

‎In his response, Adeyanju criticised those challenging Soludo’s assessment, he pointed to Soludo’s academic and professional background, noting that the governor is a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a professor of economics.

‎Adeyanju highlighted Soludo’s academic achievements, he noted that Soludo obtained a First Class degree in economics and became a professor of economics at the age of 39, based on this background, Adeyanju questioned why political supporters would challenge Soludo’s understanding of financial matters and public-sector audits.

‎Adeyanju stated that he trusted Soludo’s assessment of the state’s financial records, he argued that the governor’s claim about outstanding debts should be taken seriously because of his experience in economics and public finance.

‎To support his position, Adeyanju shared a government document showing details of Anambra State’s financial obligations, the document contains a table listing several loans reportedly obtained for projects involving areas such as malaria control, education and erosion management.
