In a recent interview from 12:27 on TVC News, on Monday, June 6, 2026, Sani Shinkafi, an APC chieftain and Executive Director of Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, argued that Nigeria’s political landscape should increasingly create opportunities for a new generation of leaders. He said the country’s democracy benefits when experienced politicians also make room for younger aspirants to take on leadership responsibilities.

Shinkafi maintained that while political experience remains important, age should also be considered in discussions about national leadership. He said democratic politics naturally evolves over time and that every political career reaches a point where new leadership should emerge.

Speaking during the interview, Shinkafi stated, “You can’t be 79 or 80 years old and still be struggling to become president.” He made the remark while discussing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s repeated presidential bids and his assessment of the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.

The APC chieftain also expressed confidence that the ruling party would remain competitive in the next election, citing its political structure, ongoing government programmes, and grassroots support as factors that could influence voters across the country.
